The Derbyshire Association of Local Councils (DALC) selected Ripley Town Councillor David Williams to receive the Derbyshire Councillor of the Year 2023.
The award was given on 27th June 2023, at the annual meeting of the Derbyshire Association of Local Councils (DALC) which was held at the Technique Stadium, home of Chesterfield Football Club.

Councillor Williams has been a Ripley Town Councillor since 2007, representing the Waingroves ward.

He was nominated for his immense passion for our community, in particular its heritage and environment. You will often see him out and about with a litter picker in hand as he organises monthly litter picks in Waingroves. He is well known in the area through his connections with local people, schools and various local groups to which he volunteers.

Nothing is ever too much trouble for David. He tirelessly champions issues raised by the community, such as traffic congestion, rights of way and refuse collections, the need to reinstate local bus routes, environmental issues, or the state of public highways - David is on the case immediately, always seeking a positive outcome.

Upon receiving the award, David said, 'I am deeply honoured and flattered to receive this award from DALC. In my personal view, one of the duties of a local Councillor is to try and make the services for which councils are responsible for delivering, work to the satisfaction of local residents in the respective areas'.

He added, 'This award has given me more motivation to try and continue my efforts as a Councillor into the future'.
